ABRAR ABIR
connecting dots & crossing lines
Research: an NLP course pulled me into shared tasks (ArabicNLP ‘24, CLEF ‘24). One thing led to another. A QNRF-funded CMUQ × QU collaboration on automated essay scoring for Arabic, a new dataset (EACL ‘26).
Development: a full-stack app for the Genomics Data Science Core at Sidra Medicine. Automated data extraction; interactive access to genomic data and NGS metadata for researchers and clinicians (SARF ‘26). Building responsible software on top of fragmented, high-stakes data (especially when the outputs feed straight into precision medicine) is what makes it … ‘fun’.
Uptime: Among other things, I’m (currently) curious about bio-inspired ML architectures, AI for formal verification, and mechanistic interpretability for LLMs. How those connect, I haven’t figured out yet. Somewhere in the chaos, I keep finding my childhood self. Or rather, the one who wanted to become a ‘scientist’.
Downtime: lettering, or hanging out in the arxiv.
As usual: open to collaborating on over-ambitious projects, discussing nearly-impossible ideas, or connecting over almost-thoughtful conversations.
